Syphon Brew Coffee at Coffee Lane, King Street Penang
THIS IS A MULTI PAGE POST : 1 2 3
Terry Beh, the owner of Coffee Lane Café is a coffee lover himself, therefore none other would be the best person to introduce us to the great coffee that the café has to offer.

One interesting point of this café is the freshness of their coffee which is freshly ground from imported coffee beans then brewed to perfection before served.

The many types of coffee beans available include Lavazza Coffee (originated from Italy) - a 100% Arabica bean and is one of this café’s hot seller; Mandheling Coffee (Sumatra) - one of the famous coffee in Japan and Taiwan;
Kopi Luwak or Civet coffee (Medan) – only occasionally available at the café, is coffee made from coffee berries which have been eaten by and passed through the digestive tract of the civets.

To prepare a fresh cup of coffee, the beans are weight to correct proportion before grinding into powder.

Put it in the grinding machine

Pour in carefully

Grind beans to powder

Using special machine invented in Belgium, the boiled water is then tested with thermometer to ensure water temperature is maintained at 90 degrees Celsius.

The grounded coffee is then poured into a top funnel where the steam and pressure from bottom funnel will general hot water up through the little opening.

The brewing process starts when all water transferred from bottom to top.

Overall temperature is maintained at 90 degrees Celsius to allow the beans to release oils and solids which will create pure aroma of original coffee taste.

Finally a damped cloth is wrapped at the bottom funnel to bring down the pressure and this process at the same time filtered the residue to the freshly brewed coffee

And here it is….a freshly brewed cup of Qualita Oro which is best when drink as it is.

Interestingly, this single cup of coffee can actually create different taste (plum & aromatic, sour & earthly) to mouth when the temperature drops. Best of all, it leaves a mouth watering feeling and long aftertaste.

For those that need a little sweetness, try add in a little organic sugar and it’ll bring a whole new taste to the coffee! ![]()

The coffee beans and coffee machine are also available for sale ![]()
Apart from coffee, the café also offered home cooked dishes, pastries and cakes…all prepared by Terry’s mother and mother-in-law ![]()
