Carnarvon Street Lor Mee, Hwa Nam Kafe | Hawker Food

It had been quite sometime since your last craving for Hokkien Mee trip, trying to hunt down the best hokkien mee in town. We got it accomplished months back, of course there are still more hidden gems out there. But we are in lor-mee fever now, perhaps we are having too much hokkien mee?

I can’t recall PenangTuaPui did much recommendation on lor mee stall, besides the Kuan Yim Teng Lor Mee. We received couples of email on where to get the good and tasty lor mee, and here we reach the first lor mee stall for our hunt.

Carnarvon Street Loh Mee at Hwa Nam Kafe, is our first target, who had been operating for years. It is not difficult to locate them as most of the Penangrites is very familiar with the place. When you turn from Komtar to Carnarvon Street, the coffee shop just less than 100 meters away on your left from the junction. It is before the Fountain Kafe. But parking is always a challenge there.

I personally like the lor mee here because it is special and unique taste in the gravy. The lor mee is prepared differently from those ordinary one out there, they stir-fried the lor mee instead.

Yes, it is. Stir fried. That makes it so unique that you may wanna try. RM3.80 for that big bowl of lor mee, it is worth to money and to try too.

The dark brown gravy may be scary for some of you, but the flavourful gravy and the taste of the soup may change your mind. The soup tastes so well and it blends perfectly with the noodles.

They did add in the rice wine and vinegar during the cooking. You can always tell the boss to exclude the vinegar if you don’t like the sour type of soup.

Beside lor mee, they did serve the instant stir-fried noodles such as Hokkien Char, Char Ho Fun, Singapore Rice Noodles and etc.
