Bayan Place Cafe at D’Piazza Mall, Bayan Baru
THIS IS A MULTI PAGE POST : 1 2
Lunch time! Friends and colleagues are all excited for the 1-hour lunch break but wait….where to?. I believe the same happened to most of you too, not knowing where exactly to go for lunch. That is one of the reason PenangTuaPui are always in lookout for new places or restaurant in town to introduce to all of our devoted followers.
Today, we received forwarded email of a new restaurant called Bayan Place Café located at D’Piazza Mall in Bayan Baru featuring in local, western and fusion foods. The opening promotion offers 20% discount of total bill (except beers) which valid till 7th of December 2009. Being passionate on foods, Huat Koay decided to give this new place a try.

The restaurant has rather spacious indoor and few outdoor seating areas.

At one corner, displayed some Merchandise which I believe are available for sale.

The menu were pretty plain and simple without any illustration pictures. So, we picked few dishes from the list for a try.

Chicken Chop (RM12.90) – Those who wish to try on something special rather than the ordinary Chicken Chop, do order this. The gravy was a little different from the normal Chicken Chop, however it blends very well with the chicken while the texture of the meat was just nice to our liking.

Pattaya Fried Rice (RM8.30) – This is a simple home styled fried rice with chicken meats and prawns, then wrapped with eggs and chili sauce on top.

Tomyam Fried Bee Hoon RM6.30 – The tomyam taste was not very strong but can feel the burned smell which brings out the overall taste

Blackcurrant Freeze (RM4.90) – Blackcurrant drink with crush iced and a little Sprite for the sparkles

Orange & Carrot Juice (RM6.90) – Healthy drink full of Vitamin C

As for the service provided, still new for us to conclude. The waiter was not familiar with the menu and not able to introduce the restaurants specialty when Huat Koay asked for recommendation.
Well, I guess there are always areas for improvement. Time will allow them to settle down and establish a better service to their customers.

There’s always a room for improvement for new restaurant ya :)
Geee, Pataya Fried Rice is RM8.30??? That’s expensive la!!!
nice decor and the food looks neat and delicious.
I’ve tried it after seing your post. Loves the food. I am surprised by the low price on food ( i ate thai style chicken rice with the blackcurrent freeze), compared to other similar enviroment restaurant. 1 complain though, they need to train up their staff. But as you said, there’s room for improvement. I’ll definetely pay another visit. Thanks
hi Allie:
Yes we agree…. that’s the reason we are looking forward for a new coming visit. Hope we can see improvement in term of service
NKOTB: yes.. it is a bit pricey. hmm… but it is within the cafe type of price range.
Foodbin: yes… deco is nice… emm.. taste is pretty subjective. to me, it still need more oumph……
Bryan: Thanks for leaving comment. Yes agree, there is room of improvement.
the enviroment look nice and good service , i wish have “beer party ” if got company fuction there …
hi Johnny,
thanks for the comments, beer party? hmm,,, perhaps the owner can try to think abt it.
Have you tried the snack? RM7.90 a plate of chicken loh bak turn out to be 6 small pieces (1 piece = RM1.32, most expensive loh bak ever eaten in my life). RM4.90 spring roll (3 sticks), of whcih they cut into 9 tiny pieces. Cut throat price. Don’t think we will go back for lunch again.
Pls do not try the food as the service was slow and the cafe has only one chef. We have to wait for so long for the food to arrive and the food was served cold. I can probably cook even better than that. the food not worth the price and I advise that better go to sunshine market to eat hawker food rather than spend so much for bad food. The environment of the cafe is not really nice and not up to expectation.
They are many other cafe that has nicer environment than this. No next time for me. Thx.
food lover, i am interested to know how you know they have 1 chef? btw, i visited the cafe 2 days ago during lunch break with 4 mates, and i only waited for 15 mins for my lunch, which is acceptable to me. and the food is definetely warm, and not cold as u mention.
PG : I know they have one chef because the waiter inform us. Maybe the time i visited the cafe was lunch peak hours but not sure what time u went? anyway they should estimate larger group or crowd visit during peak hours since they have quite big seating capacity. Glad that u love their food since everyone have different taste buds but our group of 8 ppl coincidentally have the same taste buds and we would not go again in future. Thanks for ur comment though !
Egg2Tan:
Thanks for leaving comments, we didn’t tried their snacks, we did order but it is not captured, and since we are quite full so we din ask for it.
Agree with you, if RM7.90 for 6 small pieces, then it is a pricey. I will try to get the boss to feedback this….. Hope there will be more improvement seen.
Foodlover:
hmm…. bad food, long waiting, one chef?
It means we are good in drawing attention
ops…. is that our fault to intro this new cafe??…
okok… just kidding, We didn’t face such a problem because it is not fully occupied and we reach there quite early of the lunch time.
I would believe the owner/boss never expect such a overwhelming response from us after we post about them.
I think there need sometime to settle down, but one thing we notice is the waiter is better trained after the previous visit.
Lets give them a second chance in coming future to see what else they can deliver. Thanks.
pg:
Thanks for your comment. I get the same comment from my readers on the long waiting issue. And you would be as lucky as myself who walk in the correct time.
Lets see how the owner would do on the improvement area.
i agree that the price is a bit pricey but the portion is so big. i couldn’t finish myself so i share it with my friend. anyway i love their cabonara. went on lunch time as well and i only waited for around 10 to 15 min which is acceptable, except for a friend of us that order for grill fish, she had to wait longer than us but that has already been informed to her by waiter. all the food served to 8 of us are so fresh and hot. only realize they also serve beer. might arrange to hang out with friends there the next time.
pasta lover: hmm… 10-15 mins of waiting is still acceptable, but some may not be as lucky as you do.
We hope to see more improvement after they settle down for sometime, we will be back soon.
received an email when i was still in aussie. was so excited about trying it when i came back! wasn’t disappointed as the food was reli yummy. good food + great ambience means i will definately continue patronising this cafe. Alto the service wasn’t fantastic, i’m pretty sure it’s juz a small glitch that will be ironed out in no time as this cafe is but a week old. thx, penang tua pui for posting this up on ur blog. will def try the other places that u recommended.
Summary of our visit as follow!
1) We order few dishes as we want to try out your foods. I can see plenty of things not in ready yet. e.g the menu. We assumed you don’t have any F&B experience. All your dishes is very general indeed. We don’t have to eat at your cafe if we can find that in any warung, mamak or hawker centre, you know what I mean?
I know it is not easy to hear but we must tell you that your food is suck and it’s not fresh. We don’t plan to visit your cafe anymore therefore we aren’t interested to complaint on spot. Shall we blame of the low customer traffic at your cafe?
2) too pricey for the warung, mamak or hawker centre dishes therefore I shall visit Dome instead!
3) your service need to be upgrade ASAP, do you know we need to pay for the service charge? perhaps the owner need to be trained 1st how to run the proper cafe by passion but not the profit 1st.
Overall your cafe remind me of Red Island Cafe e.g most general dishes, lousy food and drink, pricey, inexperience in services, no passion in running good cafe but the profit only.
There are plenty of room for improvement and I hope you can seriously take immediate action!
terrible cafe ever!!
-bad food
-too pricey for simple general dishes
-service is slow
-the cafe is not up to expectation
I won’t visit the cafe anymore!
electra:
Thanks for your comment. We just intro the place as new restaurant in town, there is still got room for improvement, hope they can iron out those soon.
Belinda and Sam5533,
Thanks for your comments and we hope the boss will look positively on your comments and improve the outlet and perhaps our next coming visit we will see some improvement.
Lets see how they can improve and waiting for our coming review soon.
When? We won’t tell, your team will have another round of review though.
HI ALL decided to visit this cafe after reading FOOD LOVERS’s last comment. the result, it wasn’t that bad. the rice set was served with fried egg and a bowl of soup and their western food was served with garlic bread instead of normal bun. my favourite dish was marmite chicken rice.
to compare this cafe to a warung stall is unfair. seems like nowaday people are looking for the environment. 1 thing though, the cafe didn’t come up with any set menu and i hope they will change their temporary menu (which is found writen on the menu) ASAP.
oh ya, belinda, do the cafe have the profit sharing scheme like red island cafe as well?
hi BJ,
Thanks for your comments, yes.. compare cafe with warung, is kind of unfair, but it seems like every single one of us, who work in Bayan Lepas area is eagerly looking forward a good and nice place to hang up.
Hope they will improve and make it one for us.
Profit sharing scheme? I thought it was a scam…. better dont comment much
first doubt: boss know how to cook a?
2nd: did he do proper survey before make such investment a?
3rd: did he aware we, consumer aldy have enough disappointment with the newly setup outlet in this area?
jiak lat….
look at the rate ppl give you….
Kiasu, i think your names really suits you. Do you expect Tony Fernandes to know how to built an aircraft? Do you expect ananda krishnan to know how to launch a satelite in the space? I think your comment is pretty lame. I have personally visited the cafe 3 times since reading penangtuapui blog about them. And i still like their food.
hi Kiasu,
Thanks for your comment, I may not have answer for all the question, but base on the feedback we got here, the outlet’s food quality and services may need more improvement in order to be competitive enough.
I wish we can find something that we can hang up and have great food.
Dear BJ,
I have no idea, perhaps you shall ask the owner to come out one as back up program and I don’t think his/her cafe business can survive any longer. I don’t eat warung and mamak dishes in the cafe! so odd! sorry ya taukeh! i just being honest and direct!
taukeh, do you know I am promoting your cafe in a way, i believe those who’s read these sure would like to drop by your cafe and feel the experience on what we’ve commented earlier on. good for you ya $$$
BJ, you can chip in my facebook to give your valuable comment and feedback about the cafe and others cafe as my friends and i did most of the time therefore you will be surprise to discover the fact and feedback of the facebook networking about this cafe!
HI Belinda,
I think the owner might need to get some back up plan. we had just drop by for another round and we found out the waiting time is long even with less customer.
And they are cooking one dish at a time which is very time consuming. I would think they should come out with some back up plan and improving their food quality as well. Perhaps they need to add more kick for that.
Hi all, They still new in line.Let give some time to them for improvement.why don’t focus the good thing like environment? No bad ma…
is a good enviroment ok they r still new so we cant expected a lot from them give people some times to improve not to critize is not good to do that
the food is not bad just need some improvement the waiter have to be train by a experience person they need to be train in good way about the waitin times if u guys wanna taste good n delicious so have to be patient and gives some times for the chef to cook not just complaining around
if want a fast food then go kfc or mc donald lo ahahah
i just straight forward to say everybody should have a change to improve and not just step people down like that eat with gratitude critize around is not good example
a 5 star restoren people would say wah 5 star man but it cant guarantee is good food the price for me is reasonable la
what u guys wanna expected is normal what i want to say is dont just CRITIZED AND STEP PEOPLE DOWN
HEY BAYAN PLACE BOSS DONT JUST OTHER PEOPLE CRITIZED MAKE U DAL CHASE UR DREAM I KNOW U GUYS CAN DO IT GOOD LUCK
I am not fussy in food. But i found nothing special about the food & it is not really nice.
NEED IMPROVEMENT! The environment is not bad.
Visited the outlet today.Yes they have improved in terms of food quality and service.Discount for normal food items at 20% and mind you 10% for set lunch. Now they even have Today’s Special.Keep on improving and you are on your way! Take it with a pinch of salt from the harsh critics.Ignore the doomsayers!!! Show them you can do it!!
