Food Introduction | Taste of Taiwan at Traders Hotel Penang

You have only two weeks. Yes, two weeks duration from 30 May 2009 till 14 June 2009 to enjoy Taiwanese food at The Islander Restaurant at the Traders Hotel, Penang. Mark these dates down if you intend to savour on the varieties of Taiwanese favourites during the daily lunch and dinner buffet spread. 


What will you get for the Taiwanese cuisine theme buffet? Well, the famous Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup should be able to give you some clues..


We were there during the launch of Taste of Taiwan, a Taiwanese cuisine promotion by Traders Hotel, Penang together with Taiwan Visitors Association as well as China Airlines


Taste of Taiwan brings in the the great taste of authentic Taiwanese cuisine under the single roof at The Islander Cafe, located at the level 1 of Traders Hotel, Penang


Fancy a cup of tea before we show you the mouth watering dishes from Taiwan?


Through collaborations and closed networking among the sister hotels of Traders and Shangri-La, Traders Hotel, Penang is able to bring in guests Chefs from their sister hotel to showcase local Taiwanese delights to folks in Penang. The General Manager, Mr Karl Karlson must be one happy person to see the successful launch of Taste of Taiwan.


Penang State Tourism Development, Culture, Arts and Heritage Committee Chairman, YB Danny Law Heng Kiang was the guest of honour who launched this Taste of Taiwan.

A well known familiar face at the Sunday Metro. Yes, it is Helen Ong, the food writer, columnist and author of “Great Dining in Penang


The Guest Chefs from Shangri-La’s Far Eastern Plaza, Taipei. Wok Chef, Chef Li Shi-Cheng (left) with expertise on Cantonese cuisine and specialises in signature wok-fried Taiwanese dishes. Senior Sous Chef, Chef Bia Wang, is the other guest chef who specialises in Taiwanese cuisine.


As mentioned earlier, the Taiwanese cuisine theme buffet is available for two weeks with both guest chefs ready to whip delicious and tantalizing Taiwanese cuisine to tease your tastebuds.


Among the famous Taiwanese delights showcased will include the famed Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup, Deep Fried Fu Rong Tofu, marinated jellyfish with abalone and Danzai noodles.


Sumptous desserts will also be aplenty with spring roll skin wrap ice-cream and coriander, deep fried Taiwanese donut with custard and the famous sweet red bean cake

    when we covered that yesterday, we did not see any oyster mee sua but based on our conversation with the organizers, the menu will change almost daily.. we’re waiting to get the full menu about Taste from Taiwan so that we can update here for our readers to skim through… :)

    The buffet lunch costs RM47nett per adult and RM23.50nett per child. Lunch is available from 12.00pm until 2.30pm.
