Penang Restaurant | Stone Bay Restaurant
If you have been cruising along Jelutong Expressway towards Bayan Lepas, you will notice a row of shoplots immediately after passing the Sungai Pinang exit and before the garbage landfill. Along these shoplots, there was one restaurant “Seasons” that we always have always noticed. However, one day we noticed a different signboard instead.
Yes, the outlet is now called “Stone Bay Restaurant” and no longer Seasons. Well, the concept has changed too…
Under the previous management, this premise focussed more on seafood as well as different market segment. With the new management and new name on Stone Bay Restaurant, they are attempting to build the branding to cater for chinese cuisine for functions especially weddings.
Yes, the interior settings have also matched of the chinese restaurant theme to set the right mood during dining. There are two floors at this restaurant with the upper floor can cope up to 60 tables.
The change of management happened not too long ago with most of the items in this restaurant still under the previous name. Well, there is a lot of cost to save if they can reuse the items from previous management.
But there are some items like the menu that needs to be changed to reflect the current management’s focus.
The dishes we had then, clock wise from lower left; Fried Four Kinds of Bean with Sambal, Grilled Cod Fish with Chef’s Special Sauce, tofu with mushroom and small pok choi, Pan Fried Venison Meat in Black Pepper.
The Grilled Cod Fish with Chef’s Special Sauce was BBQ and grilled till it become crunchy. It was then cooked with chef’s special sauce which tasted a bit like Marmite sauce. strong and appetizing. It will be a good dish to complement with rice.
Cod fish is normally steamed or lightly grilled but Stone Bay’s method makes this dish mouth watering too.
Tofu with mushroom and small pok choi is not listed in the menu but we happened to just ask for it. The green leaves were nicely cooked with the tofu quite soft and tasty.
The Fried Four Kinds of Bean with Sambal consists of egg plant, lady’s finger, lotus roots and green peas cooked in sambal. We find this dish quite delicious too but the green pea seemed unable to blend with the other three dishes. Maybe long beans or snake beans will be better choice?
Pan Fried Venison Meat in Black Pepper. This one is a bit drier version compared to Double Good one and less spicy too. We prefere our deer meat to have lots of black pepper so that it would bring out the strong flavours.
At least we see more deer meat on this plate rather than onions which is better than the other one of course. The deer meat is quite tender and juicy as well, easy to chew.
The cost for the meal for 4 persons with 4 dishes at RM83. Service charges and Goverment tax applies but at 10% instead of regular 15%. Like we said, some of the systems still using previous management’s items…

The cod fish looks so thin… enough for 4 pax ah? I think I can finish this all by myself in one sitting!

this remind me I have one of this in my draft folder.
anyway, have visited this place many times, and many times the total food bill will come up to RM150++, yours is consider cheap.

not pricey for a fully air-conditioned restaurant, but the cod fish looked pathetic. Sure far from juicy liao, to be fried to that extent.

the looks of it pathetic, agree but the taste is just otherwise…. of course, the portion is considerably small..
we tried this place once when it was still Seasons… wasn’t too impressed with the food. but since its a new management and new concept (possibly new chef too) then can go for another try!

We have staged a wedding dinner at there before, i would say the food is so so only and the manager is not so friendly, some of his act i really beh tahan, plus they are not so willing to let the wedding planner to make some decoration to the restaurant…the restaurant’s decoration is awful…if you really want to stage a wedding dinner there, i think its time to search for a wedding planner for wedding decoration….
