Hawker Food | BM Crab Meat Koay Teow
Within the heart of Bukit Mertajam town, there are many food gems that sometimes go unnoticed. Even along the viccinity of the Pek Kong temple (or commonly known as Pek Kong Cheng), you can find lots of delicious hawker foods around. This round we were somewhere between the BM Yam Rice and the pek kong cheng to try out a dish that locals here refer as “crab meat koay teow“.

Restoran Lau Yew is our place for food hunt this time and this kopi tiam is located near the BM Train Station. Just take the road at the right of this kopitiam and make a left turn at the end of the junction, you will reach the BM Yam Rice that we covered some time ago.

This stall is located at the front part which makes it quite visible to the passers by. For those who can read Chinese, the signboard will be a good indicator. (Literal translation; crab meat, koay teow, bee hoon)

The stall owner busy preparing the orders by customers. The stream of customers keep coming non stop although the volume is not that high.

You can order the fried or the wet version, and have either koay teow or bee hoon.

The raw ingredients stacked just next to the frying wok.

Shredded BBQ pork used as toppings for the crab meat koay teow.

The wet version of crab meat koay teow. Essentially, this is fried hor fun to many people with shredded BBQ pork toppings as well as crab meat.

We ordered a medium size (RM3.80) which looked more like a large portion. Small one costs RM3.30 while large size cost between RM6 to RM8. Yes, the “wok hei” is there and so was the taste, it had enough flavour to feel satisfied after finishing it.

The fried hor fun aka crab meat koay teow looks normal but with the crab meat as the toppings, it certainly looks unique and delicious. This stall opens daily from 5.30pm till 12am and closes on alternate Mondays.
