Hawker Food | BM Yong Xu Xia Heh Chee, Octopus & Ais Kacang
After our meal at BM Yam Rice, we went around BM area to look for some desserts to complete our makan-makan trip. Since we had quite a significant portion then, we decided to look for some snacks that will go easy on the stomachs yet can satisfy our mouths…Hehehe.
We headed back to this place which we covered also some time ago which at that time we were here mainly for the curry mee. This time we are here for some snacks..

Another reason for coming back is to update our photos with SLR quality compared to Digital point and shoot cameras that we took last time. Of course, our beloved photographer’s skills (ahem!) have also improved tremendously since we last came here to take pictures.

Over at this stall, you will get the fried stuffs like heh chee (prawn crackers), potatoes, banana etc. The one that we are interested in is the heh chee.

The fried prawn crackers are just nice as the after main course snacks.

The heh chee is slightly different from the typical version, as you can see. This heh chee is more like cucur udang.

We like the texture especially when it is just fried. The heh chee is not completed crispy but mostly on the edges. The middle portion, being slightly thicker and softer relatively can be quite chewy.

Dip this heh chee into the chilli provided and it taste just delicous.

The other snacks that we ordered is boiled octopus. This is the same stall that sells the famous curry mee. We decided not to have curry mee this round but fill up with lighter snacks instead.

The boiled octopus comes with two sauces; chilli sauce and tnee cheoh (sweet paste) that are sprinkled with some grounded peanuts.

You get not only spicy and sweet but at the same crunchy tast as well because of the grounded nuts. The octopus has been boiled just at the right time as the chewiness can be tasted still. Yes, the garlic oil is added to make the octopus more appealing….

Unlike the one at Ong Cheng Huat, this plate of octopus does have a lot of the “head” portion that some of us chose to remove the brain part before eating…

Besides having the curry mee as the attraction, the other attraction at this place is the Ais Kacang stall.

This is the owner of the ais kacang stall that is handling all the work mostly by himself. He has a few assistants that will take orders or do the packing for take away customers.

The orders keep coming and the boss is seen constantly shaving the ice and replacing ice cubes regularly.

How do they cope up with so many requests of different types? Seems like the owner has come up with the system above to determin the number of bowls ordered and the types. So this reduces the error and confusion. Simple yet effective and no need to stress the brain cells too…

The shaved ice is quite thin and this ais kacang melts fast too.

The same goes for the cendol which the ice melts fast.

Another shot of the cendol photo.

The heh cheh shots are great! After yam rice still can eat so much snacks… Keng!

Alamak.. PTP are really PTP… you guys are really bottomless pits! Don’t you guys feel stuffed at all? Haha!! I hope the octopus are soft enough to bite as I had some problems at some of the Loh Bak stalls here on the island. That’s the reason I only opt of those sushi like baby octopus now.
