Hawker Food | Air Itam Market Koay Chap, Apong & Roti Canai
The makan trip at that morning at Air Itam Market did not finish with the earlier post. The number of dishes that we ordered were sufficient enough to have a Part 2 for it. In the previous post, we had porridge, char koay kak and also chee cheong fun while in this continuation posts, we have koay chap, apong and roti canai.

This type of sign or plaque is normally available at older kopi tiam

This is the scene we shot to really show you the even the space available inside this kopi tiam cannot accomodate the constant stream of customers coming in. You can see some are actually waiting to get seated.

Ahh… The Koay Chap. At RM4.00 per bowl it did have lots of ingredients such as duck meat and the internal parts but we noticed that this koay chap did not have any egg in it. Yes, we were refering to the hard boiled egg that was included when we ate at the Kimberly Street stall. Perhaps they are just different..

The koay chap did have a certain amount of duck “smell” though not that strong type. Instead of being served grinded chillis, you will get the chopped ones instead.

Taste wise, the koay chap is average if comparing with the one at Kimberly Street. It has the fragrance of koay chap but not as strong and mouth watering. Tam Ciak was in fact keep saying this throughout his meal while finishing his bowl of koay chap.

Nevertheless, this is still one good bowl of koay chap if you happen to look for food here especially during day time.

While waiting for our orders to arrive, Huat Koay went over to buy apong as appetizers, to fill our stomachs at least. This typical indian apong is quite delicious and tasty and we did not realise that we finished it in seconds!

It is quite fragrant and crispy when you feed into your mouth. The apong has thicker middle part and thin crust edges. In fact, Huat Koay finished off almost all the thin edges because he likes those crispy portion and leaving the middle part uneaten. Then Tam Ciak and few others have to help him finish off the “left overs” . Very nice, Huat Koay… took the best part and leave the not so best one..

We ordered roti canai as well.

Wah Meng Cafe at Air Itam Market

There’s one apong stall at Chai Leng Park ‘wai sek kai’ there selling yummy apong. It was operated by an old lady. I luv the apong there. It’s a must snacks for me whenever I visit wai sek kai. You try that before?

never expect the coffee shop looks so bright and sharp under your lens. it is a nice place to have great food if you have patient to look for car park, hot environment (out side) and lots of people here and there.
But worth to able to try so many different food at one place.
email2me,
hahaha and added some from our trip some time later :Þ
Siew Teng,
Looking for the right place to sit with sufficient lights do help in capturing those photos…When we went there that time, the weather was nice and not hot at all..
but we do agree that this is one of the best places to look for different foods at one place

dear all, i think kimbery street koay chap is the best in penang. cheaper n good taste
aquarius,
yes, between the one at kimberley st and air itam, we do prefer the one at kimberley st… maybe others have other preference elsewhere?
PenangTuaPui’s… Koay Chiap i suggest Kimberly Street la, the one opposite Prangin Mall. It’s quite famous and some tv food program’s been filming it as well. It’s beside the road, while the whole family is selling it. Quite big portion, with a whole egg in it. Should try… =)
Tomoko,
Yup, we’ve tasted that one and like it too.. which is why we mentioned above as well
