Penang Restaurant | Star View New World Park - Fei Fei Farewell Lunch

Before Fei Fei traveled to US for business trip recently, he said he wanted to have a Chinese meal before leaving as he feared he might not enjoy the great dishes like the one we had in Penang. Furthermore, he was leaving for US when it was almost winter season and he anticipated during his trip there, he would be eating cold dishes most of the time.
Being good buddies as we had always been, like what we brought Huat Koay for the Taiwanese food at Kocha Taiwanese Delights, this time we decided to throw a simple farewell lunch for our dearest Fei Fei. Well, simple is just too superficial to describe our farewell lunch we had and the place we went to. One had to be prepared with at least thick wallet dining at this place and we kid you not. Of course, Visa, Mastercard or Amex are always great alternatives to cash…hehehe
Yes, we are talking about the widely known Star View Restaurant which used to be at the Burmah Road for ages before moving over to their new home at New World Park. The previous location must have brought lots of nostalgic memories for Star View yet the decision to move over to new place was probably necessary to accommodate more customers and expand their business. It was also one of the places where many Penangites hold their wedding dinners there.
The restaurant did their best to preserve the decorations and settings to make the new place as comfortable and familiar as possible compared to the old place as this was quite an important aspect to regular and seasoned customers to feel the same way every time they came back to dine at their favourite restaurant. This is still a place to hold wedding dinners for many people although there are many choices out there.
The mahjong tiles on the pillars were one of the decorative items brought over from the old place and this decoration so far was only available to Starview among the Penang restaurants. Starview also had few private rooms which customers need to call in advance to book.
We made the decision to go there almost last minute, hence we did not get the private room but the environment at the main hall was just as good. Indeed, the new premise was much more spacious and more elegant despite the tables and chairs used were just normal ones.
We were then served by a waitress who took our orders and gave us recommendations on types of dishes that we could have that moment. While waiting for our meals, we helped ourselves with the appetizers of two types of nuts while observing this new place of Star View at New World Park.

It was almost a year ago when my colleagues and I enjoyed our “pun choy” in the Star View.

Perhaps it is although we know that cod fish is unlikely to be fresh as it’s captured from deep sea rather than shallow water and kept in freezer.
Still to us, it’s kind of a waste to fry cod fish… probably other readers may have more insight why cod fish should be fried?
The cod fish looks delicious, even though like you said, probably not the freshest fish around. I am a sucker for cod - fried, steamed or otherwise! Wishing Fei Fei a safe and happy journey!

Got to agree the prepared cod fish was good. Maybe we’re just too picky about the cooking method?

when the weather was cold and he was feeling lonely (which was unlikely), he’ll think of us back in Malaysia… But then he was a group of ladies accompanying him there… so he’s a happy guy there… hahahah
Normally restaurant would fried the fish prior serving if the fish is not fresh. This is the thinking that always in my mind.
Fresh fish should be steamed.

but then cod fish is not actually fresh water where you can steam to taste the freshness…
Cod fish are typically caught in open seas, so they’re likely to be frozen before being shipped to this country… not sure if any party ever try to culture them instead
It look as though nothing much had changed over here… even the price. LOL! Ignore the service complaints, at least Fei Fei get the Royal treatment from his great buddies.
