Penang Food | Curry Fish Head Juru
We have a strong attraction towards Juru area recently to hunt for its hidden food gem and we were quite proud to have uncovered a few like Warung Kelapa Sawit and Jamu Selera Mee Udang. We were told there were many more nice eating places at Juru but of course that would take some time to explore them. And we are ready to explore another area soon, so Dear Readers: which part of Penang do you think we should cover next?
Our food hunt this round has brought us towards Perkampungan Juru for Juru Curry Fish Head. The other curry fish head we had tried before was at Chai Leng Park’s Lekker Claypot and Curry Fish Head as well as Sunshine Square Food Court Curry Fish Head.
Juru Curry Fish Head is actually an economy rice stall that specialized in well, Curry Fish Head, obviously. This stall is located next to Restoran Long Choo coffee shop, which you need to take a left turn at the traffic light if you are coming from Auto City and the coffee shop is located on your right after you crossed the bridge towards Perkampungan Juru.
we walked towards the coffee shop, there was a sign with a fish head and “Kari Kepala Ikan” wordings hanging above the stall. When we were inside the coffee shop, only did we realize the signboard was put inside instead of outside the coffee shop, quite amusing actually.
You could choose either to have fish head or just the fish meat depending on your preference. The curry fish head could be customizable according to your taste preference like the part of fish that you want, the level of spiciness of the curry, the ingredients inside the curry fish head or even the curry oil.
The curry fish head came in quite a big pan and not big bowl. The portion was actually bigger than we thought as we had not expected the servings to be so much. The curry fish head could easily feed up to 8 persons or more, depending on how many TuaPuis going with you… hehehe. Luckily for us, the side dishes we took were just minimal and most of the time, we were concentrating at the curry fish head, looking at the small mountain at the middle of the table.
The curry fish had thick gravy that was quite addictive and spicy. The curry oil was quite a lot too which we felt was a little too much but the cook said the more curry oil the better…. Maybe to him but definitely not for us.
We managed to clear the whole curry fish “mountain” after some time later, feeling full, satisfied and lazy to walk. That was another wonderful meal that we had at Juru.

yea, it’s quite oily but the boss insisted the more oily, the spicier the curry fish head was… Not too us lor.. just rem to ask for less oil when you order

hahaha yes, we felt quite jelak seeing the oil also.. just removed them and focus on the fish

Well today i just tried with few of my friends..indeed it’s big but not that really nice compare to other places.It taste spicy yet bitter so i can say that it’s not a good curry fish head anyway
Just back from the curry fish head… disappointed, it taste so weired and bitter taste….

yes…. the curry is a bit unique.. if they put too much, it will taste a bit bitter.
Some like it… some may not. It is depends on your expectation on a good curry paste.
I agree that there is still improvement needed on the fish.
