Malay Food | Restoran Mak Long - Bayan Lepas

The good thing of living in a multiracial country like Malaysia is that you get to enjoy foods and dishes from another culture and not just of your own. With the exposure of foods from different cultures, we learn a thing or two about them and vice versa. No wonder Malaysia is a truly Asia country, culture wise.

Our food hunt this time was led by Huat Koay to this area near the SP Setia Island where we had the fish steamboat some time back. Typically, we seldom go to these places unless there was a recommendation like Jamu Selera Mee Udang at Juru or discover them by chance like the Warung Kelapa Sawit. Huat Koay said the view from here when looking towards SP Setia Island was like the same view as the signature Hollywood landscape view. Very imaginative indeed… Hehe…

Restoran Mak Long served typical Malay village food with the dishes spread more than enough for you to come a few times. True to the tagline used “Pilihan yang memenuhi sajian anda” (literal translation: Choices that fulfill your meals). In fact, the choices here can easily exceed more than 30 dishes at any time which make you feel like you were spoilt for choices not knowing which dish to take!

What we liked about the dishes served in the consistency in the cooking quality and we thought they were quite delicious even for the simple dishes. Well, Tam Ciak said it really had the feel of malay kampong style cooking.

Restoran Mak Long was quite famous among the many people here especially the office workers nearby and quite a lot of Malays as well. Normally, if the place has lots of working class Malays, it is an indication of cheap and affordable food. Although, this is akin to stereotyping, we thought this would be a good way to tell whether the place served good yet affordable food.

Another experience we encountered was we had seen quite a number of policemen dining here as well in our few visits. Seemed like this place was their favourite hang out too. Quite a nice place to enjoy Malay style food except for one thing; the place was quite hot due to the zinc roof top and you could not stay there too long. Maybe they can flush some water onto the rooftop to cool down the place a little.
