Restaurant | Swensen’s Juru Auto City
Swensen’s is a name that no longer needed any introduction. Mention the Swensen’s and the thought of earthquake ice cream will immediately come into your mind. Besides the earthquake ice-cream, Swensen’s was something we could relate on during our teenage years when there was the only one outlet opened at the Penang Road/ Chulia Street junction. It was considered one of the above average dining restaurants then.
Of course, the status is still the same till today. But then, the one at Penang Road is no longer available and instead two bigger outlets have opened, one at Queensbay Mall while the other one at Auto City, Juru. We happened to dine at the one at the latter outlet.
Swensen’s menu had changed compared to the last time we were there, which was just a few months back. Quite a number of dishes had been arranged, we guess due to the popularity of the dishes and the price, well, had also increased. The portion remains the same though, phew… else it would be double whammy.
We ordered a lamb chop with came with complimentary plate of garden salad. Hmm, that was a nice gesture to have something complimentary. Come on, when you order something and they said there are additional dishes that came together, would you not feel happy about it. Talking about pay the same price for more items… hehehe
The tomyam spaghetti and salmon arrived next and immediately Huat Koay asked everyone to have their hands off the dishes. There were two of them and he was undecided which one to take first… hahaha. Tom Yam spaghetti had only some tom yam taste, to us which was not strong enough although the spiciness was there. Perhaps we could add a little bit more tom yam paste of our own?
Salmon came in two pieces with a portion of rice and some vegetables. Well, we liked things when they are a lot, else TuaPui would not feel enough one, right? The salmon was slightly cooked as the flesh was little bit hard. Luckily though, the moisture inside the salmon still retained and it did not taste dry.
The omelet was quite a generous portion as it was just mostly eggs and cheese anyway. The portion was not to be eaten by single person as it could make you feel jelak unless you like eggs so much.
Lamb chop came as the last dish… no wonder they served garden salad at the beginning!! Else, we would be banging tables asking “Where is our LAMB CHOP???” Hahaha… of course, being courteous as we always had been, we would not do that. The lamb chop was a bit dry but the meat was still quite tender. It was also sprinkled with crushed almonds which was something pleasing. Huat Koay said he preferred the one at Salsas.
Mango Madness
Sticky Chewy Chocolate
Then came Fei Fei’s favourite session, the ice cream desserts!! We ordered Mango Madness, Sticky Chewy Chocolate, Merri-Mint as well as Coit Tower. The ice cream was not as smooth compared to Haagen Dazs or Maxim Cake House but the portion for each of the ice cream was quite big and plenty, carving smiles on our face after we finished the last scoop on every of them. Fabulous~!

Another Coit Tower shot

Oh my, the salmon looked gorgeous!:)
Swensen’s just not good for ice-cream it seems;)

A few months ago, I visited Swensen at Queensbay Mall, and it was the first and last time I ever went. Bad experience! I can’t remember what I had for main course, but it was damn chewy! May be can try Autocity’s outlet.

hey guys. what’s with all the filtered words? when you go to an outlet, and you feel what you paid for is not worth the quality that you are getting.. just cut the ‘niceness’ and tell your readers your real opinion. The last thing i want to do is to go to a restaurant that isnt worth my dollars. I’d be pissed to know i’ve been tricked by the pretty photos on your site. So as a note of feedback to your new site, i’d say AWAY with the FILTERED reviews!
Im sure readers on your site wil appreciate an honest and transparent reviews.

which part of the post contains filtered words? Since when have we filtered our words, just to be nice to the restaurateurs? There are no filtered words in here and perhaps you might want to highlight specifically where these filtered words are. If you are referring to bold and coloured words, they’re meant to further emphasize those words we used and also to make the words not too dull. The ones in red line and double underline are meant for advertising.
oh btw, have we not be honest in our opinions and reviews? sorry that you have been tricked with the pretty photographs. Perhaps, it just a testimony we have good photography skills :):)
again, we’re puzzled about the feedback you have on honest and transparent reviews. Come on, we had been there and there was nothing to hide if the restaurant did badly. Perhaps the post below may help to enlighten you about what we had gone through… and the fact that we were proud to have this posted till now..

Well, my experience from the QBM outlet was that they could have done better with the taste for their main courses. Maybe the taste of the food is more suitable for the Westerners? I’m not sure about that but one thing I had never had any complaints is their desserts. Those are always great.

I prefer to see the food occupy more space in the photo and not the plate. Since this is a food blog and not a “plate” blog! LOL!!!
I like their ice cream, earthquake, like what you guys mention. Swensen has one outlet long time ago in Tanjung Bunga (or Batu Feringghi?), I forgot which hotel is that. The very first time I have my earthquake ice cream was at there. Earthquake was really good! I like it very much!
I also try out the outlet in Auto City. Cannot remember the taste of the food. I think we only went there for the dessert.

I went to Auto City Swensen and it is not bad.
However, the restaurant which suppose to famous in ice cream was the worst dishes I ordered. The ice cream appeared to be melting when served. Kinda dissapointed but the main dish a steak (dunno the full name) is very tasty. It is among the best steak i have ever tasted in my life. No kiddin.
I recommend for those for want to dine there should consider the Auto City over the one in Queensbay mall.

Tried Earthquake Ice-cream yesterday.
Yes, it’s really earthquake on the pocket to pay between RM40+ and 50+ compared to Ice-Ice Baby Ice-Cream which is more than marvellous.
However, the BBQ Chicken is excellent.
