Hawker Food | Raja Uda Lok Lok

This place has got to be the place that offers the cheapest lok lok in Penang. Even the one sold at Padang Brown or Pulau Tikus could beat this one, to our reckoning. With each lok lok stick that costs on RM0.30, this place by far can claim the throne of “Cheapest Lok Lok in Penang”. If you do really find another one which can be cheaper than this one, let us know and we are more than willing to write a review about that one.

When we mentioned RM0.30 per stick, we meant each and every stick actually cost that much regardless of the ingredients put, be it fish balls, squid, tofu, hot dog, etc. Of course, relatively to the price, the portion had got to be smaller too but it did not really reduce much.

In fact, we were able to eat to our hearts’ content as we could enjoy more varieties. Most of the folks here including us, were targeting for squids and other items normally more expensive at other lok lok stalls. Each of us ate about 15 sticks on average and yet still found it cheaper than other lok lok stalls.

You can choose to stand around the stall to enjoy the lok lok or you can choose your ingredients, cook them and eat them at designated tables. Of course, only the stall has the cooking pots and there is one at each side of the stall. There were limited tables available and most patrons would choose to stand around the stall as it was easier to take the lok lok sticks.

As of the sauces, there were three types offered and all the three were chili based. No tnee cheoh (sweet sauce) was available though. The chili based sauces were not that spicy and one of them actually had mixture of sambal and lime.

This lok lok stall starts operation around 2pm and will continue to sell until the supply runs out. Normally by 5pm, the supply actually runs out already. According to the uncle, he sells almost daily but which day does he rest? He never mentioned that… hehehe. So it is better to be early if you intend to drop by here for you lok lok sticks.

Christy, you are not the only one who’s not keen on lok-lok for (1) having to stand around the stall (2) having to share the dipping sauced with the rest of the customers.

So for a slightly higher price, most folks (including yours truly) will head over to the lok-lok stall in Pulau Tikus which only operates at night. I’ve brought many foreign frens there and they love it! The best part is, I don’t have to bear the embarrassment of explaining to them abt sharing the dipping sauces coz each customer is given an individual plate to dish out the dipping sauces for their own consumption. So, no sharing. Also, each customer gets a stool to sit down. Again, another plus point.

Guess the Pulau Tikus stall will remain my #1 fav place for lok-lok in Penang. Don’t mind paying more for the hygiene and extra comfort while savoring the local dish. :)
