Penang Restaurant | FuHo Restaurant - Batu Maung

8 October 2008 766 views 9 Comments

We went to dine at this place about more than a month ago but somehow the photos were missing from our radar screen and we completely forgot about it. Paiseh nia, lots of postings queuing up and we missed this one. Now that we found this place, if it was still consider new, we shall write about Fuho Restaurant.

Fuho Restaurant is located at Batu Maung just next to Little Castle and in fact these two outlets belong to the same management. Fuho Restaurant caters for Chinese food while Little Castle caters for Western Food. The environment inside Fuho Restaurant is brighter though compared to Little Castle, perhaps because Fuho Restaurant is also more spacious.

Interior settings are quite simple with few long tables arranged to maximize seating capacities. Tall mirrors are placed strategically at each four corners of the pillars although we did not see any on the wall. Normally people will put the mirrors on the wall to make the place more spacious and crowded when they are lots of customers; a sign of good business. However, the mirrors on the pillars one, we had no idea…

The bar setting was nothing old or any resemblance to Chinese cuisine restaurant. The way we saw it, it was a fusion style. Quite futuristic and modern for a Chinese restaurant but that was another of expression if we read the owner’s mind right 

The menu was quite simple and straight forward with the dishes all categorized accordingly: appetizer, poultry, pork, seafood, noodle and drinks. In fact, they were colour coded too in order to differentiate one group from another. Each of the main dishes we ordered came with vegetables, rice and soup. Well, that was the items showed the pictures anyway. We ordered D9, B7, D2, C6, B1 & B8. Huh? What are these?? Well, each of them corresponded to the dishes we ordered. Read on to find out more.. hehehe..:Þ

The first dish to arrive was Seafood Tom Yam Soup (D9) which looked quite spicy and fiery due to the redness of the tomyam soup. Taste wise, we were glad the soup met our expectations as well, thick flavour and aroma until Fei Fei kept saying it was spicy yet he liked it.. Hahaha ..Our Fei Fei getting addicted lioa.

Deep fried chicken with cashew nuts (B7) came next and it was nothing like deep fried chicken at all. The dished was poured with lots of gravy that we did not notice the dry part of it… Hehe.. Furthermore, the dish came with variety of vegetables and cashew nuts that the colour combination was quite pleasing. Taste wise, it was just average, though the portion seemed quite more than enough.

Fried Hot & Spicy Seafood in Thai Style (D2) came immediately after that and based on the first tomyam dish served, we expected the taste to be on par with Seafood tom yam soup. Again even the dry tomyam looked quite fiery with hotness because of its reddish colour. The taste was as good as the first one, with strong tom yam flavour and the variety ingredients given including squids and prawns.

Steamed Pork Ribs and Bitter Ground in Black Bean Sauce (C6) came in strong dark colour. The combination was a bit unique and weird having bitter gourd which had bitter taste to mix to salty black bean sauce. The pork ribs were quite tender and just nice for Tau Hua.

Steamed Chinese Herbal Chicken with Assorted Mushroom in Foil (B1) was an excellent dish that we wished we had more, especially the gravy. Though the chicken portion and the ingredients were a bit less than we thought but the strong aroma of the herbal chicken was indeed tasty and came with strong aroma and flavour. Taste wise, we would give a thumb’s up.

Fuho Drunken Chicken in claypot (B8) was another equally dish worth trying, especially if you prefer to get “drunken”. Hehehe. This dish actually contained Chinese alcohol so be forewarned if you decide to order this dish. Tam Ciak said he could feel the body heating up after taking the soup and tasted almost like the one he had at home. Strong alcohol flavour can be sensed even on the chicken. This meant the chicken was cooked together and not separately.

We also ordered belacan chicken as well but nothing special compared to other belacan chicken we tried and the belacan taste was less as well. Each of the dishes we ordered cost between RM10.80 to RM13.80 which we though was slightly above the average. Perhaps if the set that came with complimentary drinks, it would be nice. Maybe we had been quite calculative lately? Hehe

The other places you can opt for lunch is Dragon-Y at Suntech Tower or Four Seasons at Sunway Tunas

    buzzingbee,

there was an interesting observation we noticed after paying the bills.. the higher the price, the more sensible the quality and food taste it becomes… it’s like direct correlation…so you can do the math here…

If the food came together with the drinks then I would say it was reasonable. But I would have to see the portion served in real before I can comment on that.. LOL! I don’t know if the food there was tasty or not as there weren’t many customer there as well.
