Penang Restaurant | Dragon-Y Suntech Cybercity

18 October 2008 1,021 views 13 Comments

Another day for lunch without having exact place to go. Eventually Fei Fei drove us to Sunshine Market to grab something to fill our stomach but upon reaching there. The sight of cars queuing up was quite stressing and we were somehow “cursing” (ahem, pardon our impoliteness). Suddenly, Huat Koay noticed a new restaurant opened at the newly launched Suntech City, the building behind Sunshine Square Mall.

The cute icon of the Dragon-Y caught our attention as we walked towards the restaurant. (PenangTuaPui’s icons are still much cuter heheh…). The mascot of this restaurant was as if it came from some Chinese RPG game character. (RPG is Role Playing Game, fyi). Dragon-Y is a joint venture between Wang Chao 118 and Hong Kong businessman.

This place has two storey and most of dining tables are located at the upper floor as the ground floor can be quite cramped. There are still a few tables at the ground floor though. The top floor can be quite warm.

Mirrors were placed to give an impression of larger area but the tall seats placed actually counterbalance this effect. We did not think the mirrors helped much anyway. Also, a large LCD TV was placed onto the wall for your additional entertainment.

The menu was quite refreshing that came with lots of pictures and well organized categories. We scanned through the dishes and found prices of each dish cost between RM9.90 to RM16.90.

The abalone noodle came with quite strong aroma that got our nose tingled and our throat swallowing the saliva. The noodle we chose had alcohol in it and tasted quite nice when you eat the noodles and soup separately but the moment you ate them together, be prepared for a rush of excitement that was quite thrilling. Well, that was what Huat Koay felt that moment.

Claypot chicken portion was much smaller than our expectations. Even the picture you see showing the chicken portion was relatively half the height only. Despite that small portion, the claypot chicken actually had nice aroma and tasted nice too. The chicken served was in fact grilled chicken.

Mushroom rice was yam based rice which had quite some large size mushrooms, fat choy, broccoli etc. Quite delicious too and the portion is more than the claypot chicken. Maybe can put more so that TuaPui can eat more happily? Hehe…

The snow iced drinks we ordered were actually ice blended drinks. We had sour plum, strawberry and mango snow iced drinks. The snow iced drinks were quite refreshing after meal.

We noticed an interesting bowl of dessert on our neighbour’s table and was so curious what it was. We were jokingly said we should take a picture of that one. Suddenly Fei Fei leaned over and asked the couple next table if we could snap a photo of that. Looking perplexed but laughing, they agreed!! Hahaha Tam Ciak and Huat Koay kind of paiseh but we did get a photo after all.

This is another place to dine if you happen to run out of ideas to have your meals again, just like us.. hehehe. The pricing is above average but comparable to Wong Kok at Queensbay Mall. It is advisable that you call over to make reservations as seatings can sometimes be limited.

Hahaha…initially I also thought this was Dragon-i and at Suntech? Then I saw Dragon-Y, and wondered whether it’s the sibling or the gen-y of Dragon-i…which I don’t think so now:p

Ignore those 2 mistakes, this place seems really nice and I love that cute little icon they have:) (Okay, PenangTuaPui’s still cuter;)
    Nice snowies….I like!:)

And I must really salute you guys lar, for that brave act to ask to take pics of the food at other table….hmmmm, what’s next? Interview the ppl at the restaurant on their opinion of the food? hahahha…..then we will have a new variant of the Ho Chiak Programme, but I wonder whether what you will name it?;)

This is a great find and I applaud you guys for the sharing, it’s a good thing you didn’t go to Sunshine;)
