Penang Food | Continental Bakery – Bread, Nasi Lemak & Spaghetti
We thought Fei Fei were kidding when he said he was going to bring us to have lunch at a bakery store. Our instant response was jaw-dropping-surprised-look, lunch at kedai roti?? So was it going to be breads only for lunch? Being cheeky as usual, Fei Fei kept mum about it and drove us straight to the place. He kept saying you would know when we reached there… Hmmm, so mysterious??
Before long, we came into familiar sight of Nagore Road where some of the great foods are located nearby. Then our eyes set upon an old building at the junction of Nagore Road and Bawasah Road that did not really look like a bakery. However, as we crossed the roads moving towards the entrance, the fresh aroma greeted us that made us hungrier by many folds!
The sight of breads on the right as we entered the premise as well as the cakes in front of the counter were very tempting and mouth watering. Everything looked so delicious that PenangTuaPui felt like taking each and every piece available then… hahaha
While waiting for our orders, we had curry puffs and egg tarts which we thought was good and appetizing. The curry puffs were crunchy while the egg tarts were quite soft and fragrant.
Our trip here was not just breads, luckily. We were here for the nasi lemak and spaghetti from Continental Bakery. Besides breads and drinks, you could have nasi lemak, spaghetti and mushroom soup. Nasi Lemak and spaghetti each costs RM5.50 and they came with herbal tea drinks while the mushroom soup is priced at RM4.50.
The nasi lemak had egg, fish, vegetable, curry chicken, sambal and ikan bilis. The portion can feed one normal person but definitely not enough for us TuaPui. The nasi lemak looked just like an average nasi lemak except for the whole fish they gave.
Spaghetti came a bit later because the waitress somehow forgot about it until we reminded them. When the dish came later, we almost burst into laughter! It was a very small bowl that Tam Ciak said he could finish it in 5 mouthfuls … hahaha.
Taste wise, the spaghetti was probably prepared in haste and tasted a bit hard. Some more the cheese did not melt and did not quite blend well with the spaghetti.
Mushroom soup was creamy and thick with pieces of cut mushroom. It came with small pieces of garlic bread.
After the meal, we really felt there was still a lot of room to fill in our stomach and we moved on to the opposite for dessert. So stay tuned for the next post about it.

hmm…looks nice wor….i always passby there, bt never know that inside also got other food…….haha..okok…will try then……
Hahaha….”could feed one normal person, but not us Penang Tuapui”:p
I may not be that normal too, I doubt I can finish a normal person’s portion either…sighs, wonders why I have a food blog, right:p
Btw, this Continental Bakery is really popular for their pastries and their fresh breads. They also won lots of favors from women as well; working women and also health/body-conscious women as they sell lots of organic-made and low carb/calory kind of bread, that’s what my aunt said.
Really popular…their bread are off the shelves in no time!~:D
If you ever have a chance, do try their cinammon rolls! Soft, fragrant and yummy
.
Best time to go for these rolls would be 11am - fresh out of the oven
.
Yup,
definitely agree… we tried the breads too and they were quite marvelous. The fresh from oven breads really had us drooling and we managed to pack some breads home as well for souvenirs..
And they do offer lots of varieties that even cater for health conscious and diabetic people. So most types of the breads are available under one roof
Will try out the curry puff and nasi lemak while shopping for bread ..

I like the mushroom soup. But to me the price is slightly on the higher side as it’s serve in a bakery insted of restaurant.

LOVE the mushroom soup! I could just have bowls of bowls of the soup alone for a meal! I am also not won over by the spaghetti or the nasi lemak. But the soup… the soup is king! They do decent breads too.. but my first choice is still Rainforest bakery on Chulia St.

lingzie,
yea, that’s what we thought too.. When they forgot to make our order then, we kind of suspected this spaghetti will be prepared in a rush, maybe QC not done properly? hehehe
Yea, we can tell and we loved the bread too.. The coffee and the plain milk one can be eaten just like that!!!
allie, 550ml jar of faith
The mushroom was tasty indeed and above average in terms of the price… Imagine the garlic bread was not enough and we bought some other breads to dip into the mushroom soup too.. hehehe..
yea, Rainforest Bakery is another one that offers healthier choice.. They were featured on the The Start weekend just 1-2 weeks ago, if we rem correctly..

Hi Guys!
Yeah, I love the spaghetti and mushroom soup there too. Not sure which day you guys went there but they used to have freshly baked banana bread on Thursdays. Don’t know if they still have them. These will be out of stock very fast, especially if my friends go there. They will come back with enough bread to open their own bakery LOL.
And oh, croissants! So cheap with a lovely buttery flavor. Definitely one of the best ones I find on this island.
