Penang Dessert | Tang Dynasty Food Delight
After our trip to Continental Bakery, we walked across the street to savour for something sweet since we could not satisfy our taste buds and our stomachs yet. We found a shop that specialized in selling desserts and in fact many types of it.
In front of the shop, there was an inscription of the name “Sugar Dynasty” that resembled ancient Chinese wordings. The door was tinted that we could not see much inside but fret not as a menu was hanged outside to show you the delicacies offered by this place.
The interior setting was quite simple with a few long tables meant to cater big crowd like ours. We noticed this shop was featured before in local Chinese dailies based on few newspaper cuttings displayed on the wall next to the staircase.
The other side of the wall displayed a huge long board that featured the desserts sold at this outlet.
The menu was quite extensive and came with lots of pictures to guide you on choosing the desserts you prefer. However, always bear in mind that the pictures are meant for illustrations only and what you see may not be what you get.
Although the main attraction here was mainly desserts, you can still order main dishes or snacks like noodles, porridge, rice, vegetables, herbal eggs, popiah etc.
We ordered Double Boiled Hasma with Ginseng, Double Boiled Milk with White Fungus, Almond with Snow Fungus, Waterchestnut Egg Dessert, Almond Tea and Special Tong Yuan. We also ordered Fried Wanton Chicken as well as Shredded Pork Twin Crystal Egg.
The desserts we tried were very much like home cooked although some of the desserts were not that sweet as we thought. But this place actually emphasized on their desserts being healthier choice so we would think this fit their business models nicely.
If you are looking for desserts that give healthier alternative, this shop is worth trying out, minus the extra sweetness of course. If you prefer to have only tang yuen instead, you can go for the one at Magazine Street but it is only available from evening onwards.

I will post mine on the next few post. I didn’t order as much as you guys do. But I visited them for the second time and the menu is still the same. I think they should make some changes or add in new dessert. Water Chestnut Egg dessert was bad in taste. I tried during my first visit. I let my friend finished all. Hahaha.

samyeap,
there are more places we haven’t explored or uncovered yet.. some famous, some very ulu… but we’ll try them out and post them here so that you’l know more
Christy,
double boiled hasma with ginseng is good for the body, right? Heard can make the skin complexion fairer… wonder if it’s true
Jon,
Work’s catching up lately eh?
No worry, just keep coming when you have the time and you’ll see more updates too..
Taste is pretty much subjective, we prefer stronger taste in our food.. Others may prefer less… The best yardstick is to try them yourself whether it suits you
Steven Goh,
Perhaps the shop name was referring to desserts more than sugar itself or maybe the price of sugar went up? lol
allenooi,
Can try giving them feedback too, to change the menu?
fantastic! brings back so much memories.
thanks!
continental bakery also one of my fav.healthy breads.

I just went there last week with my family, the Tong Shui taste nice and the food (noodles) are surprisingly good too. Just love their not-too-sweet approach to the Tong Shui.
Motormouth,
yea, the breads are good for health conscious folks and they taste great too!
New Kid On The Blog,
We did notice quite a few shops next to it that we haven’t tried too.. shall come back for more as well heheh
sevendogz,
Glad to know you find their servings up to your expectations. We would still think theirs are not that sweet but then, from another perspective… it’s indeed a healthier choice… aiks, since when TuaPui started talking about being healthy??
Is it expensive ? How the pricing like ?

Hi there. I am looking for tea houses in Penang but there are not many nowadays. I have a few Europeans coming to Penang for a visit and they would like to enjoy tea drinking in tea lounges or tea houses. I found one, Jin Xiu Art Gallery and Tea House in Muntri Street from your website. The other is in Kuching Lane, Qing Huan Chinese Tea House. Another is Shui Siang Tea House at Nagore Road.
There used to be The Chameleon Cafe at Desa Permata Sports Complex but it had closed down months ago.
Do you know of any other places that we can go to drink tea while we can chat? It will be wonderful if could place some names of tea houses in your website. Probably some Chinese, or even other races, would want to look for these places to meet up for social gatherings or business discussions and they can find them in your website.
Hope you can assist.
Thank you.
Regards
Peter Ooi
Interesting posts you have here … I can see that you put a lot of hard work on your blog. I’m sure I’d visit here more often.
