Dessert | Northam Beach Cafe Mua Chee (Pinang Mua Chee)

We were choosing to have our dinner either at New Lane or Northam Beach Café when the majority requested to have dinner at Northam Beach Café instead. It was starting to drizzle when we reached and luckily for us we managed to find a shaded area.

Soon after, we started visiting all the stalls available to place our orders when we suddenly came across one particularly interesting and colourful stall. The colourful mua chee banner caught our immediate attention and upon closer look, we realized this stall was actually offering five types of mua chee flavours.

Yes, you read it correctly, five flavours of mua chee!! And of course, you can choose to mix and match all the flavours or just the specific few.

Besides the main five flavours of original, sweetcorn, pandan, green tea and black sesame, the owners sometimes would make additional 1-2 flavours. This meant you could get up to maximum of seven flavours for your mua chee.

Now, this was definitely interesting as we had never had mua chee more than 1 flavour, let alone seven flavours! The world of mua chee suddenly had become so much colourful than we thought. After making our order, we were anxiously looking forward for the mua chee to be served.

The mua chee came after some time and we observed that it was sprinkled with lots of grounded peanuts and not only that, the mua chee came with peanut sauce poured on top of the mua chee as well. Now, this was getting excited as the mua chee presentation was enough to increase our curiosity towards this Pinang Mua Chee.

Also, we noticed that the grounded peanuts had been mixed with sesame as well. Suffice to say, we were quite pleased with the additional ingredients and flavours we had for this mua chee.

When we ordered that time, there was a special blackcurrant flavour so we had six flavours for our mua chee. Nevertheless, we were quite thrilled and excited about the multi colour mua chee. The colours of the mua chee were made of natural ingredients as we were able to actually taste bits of sweet corn as well as the black sesame used to make the mua chee.

Pinang Mua Chee boasted themselves being the first colourful mua chee in Penang and honestly, we did agree with them. They even had the tagline “More flavours, More Colourful” which clearly meant you could have more than one flavour of mua chee. Gone are the old way for plain mua chee and welcome to the new colourful world of mua chee!

There are two types of servings available with the small one costs RM2.80 each while the big one costs RM3.80. The stall is closed every Wednesdays. If you prefer more conventional mua chee, you can always go for the one at Genting Cafe at Island Glades.

The pricing considered cheap compared to the one I had in Petaling Street which cost me RM5 each. The stall did not even have so much toppings and peanut sauce as this one. I’m with email2me, I prefer hot steaming plain mua chee with lots of fried onions as I find it to be softer.

The plain mua chee will still taste the best but for those who are keen to try something different, (hey after all, the world is pretty colourful), now you know where to get the multicolour mua chee…

Thanks for recommending another colourful mua chee at Petaling Street, perhaps we should drop by when we’re in KL next round :)
