Restaurant | Sakae Sushi Japanese Restaurant

This is another place needs no introduction or rather shall we say the mention of the Green Frog will immediately trigger you which Japanese restaurant we are talking this round?

The birth of Sakae Sushi was rather quite romantic and loving if you happen to read the story behind. Got meh?? Why not? It is available at the first page of the menu itself… Hehehe

Sakae Sushi has more than 50 outlets worldwide and at least 2 branches in Penang alone; Queensbay Mall (Nippon Yataimura has a branch here too) and Sunway Carnival. Perhaps more coming soon, Jusco Seberang Perai City?

We have preference to go Sakae Sushi compared to Sushi King for a few reasons. Tam Ciak always felt there was a strong, pungent smell that would make him feel nauseous every time he went to Sushi King but never notice that at Sakae Sushi.

The price is also slightly cheaper for some of our favourite dishes especially the salmon sushi and tako.

We like the better varieties provided in Sakae Sushi as well and their ordering system is much neater and more organized. You could choose your selections over the monitor available and once confirmed, the orders will be delivered to you. This will eliminate the waiter/waitress’ responsibility to constantly take orders and improve the overall service/ productivity.

Most Japanese restaurants personnel would greet you whenever you stepped into their premises, regardless whether they were the waiter/waitress, cooks, sushi chef or the restaurant manager. This is in fact a good gesture and warm welcome act, akin to giving you a grand welcome for dining at their restaurant. Although sometimes we tend to overlook it and thought they were just “singing” for us 

Garlic rice was a favourite to Fei Fei as he would never fail to order that every time we dine here. Fei Fei said the garlic rice was quite fragrant and delicious.

Well, with the small shrimps sprinkled on top of the garlic rice, this combination really made us wanted to have a spoon of Fei Fei’s garlic rice.

The salmon came in two pieces instead of regular one piece if you dine at restaurant. This was definitely something delightful as we get more quantity for the same price paid in restaurant. If you prefer to eat something in more quantity but worth the money meal, why not try Tao Japanese Cuisine?

Although the appearance could not match the one in Miraku or even at Sobayoshi, we were still satisfied with the grill salmon here. We agreed this one worth much more for money.

Sakae salad was something we ordered for the first time and we could say we were quite pleased with the presentation and the portion. It had not only mixtures of vegetables but also with few slices of salmon fish. Nice~!

As for the items on the conveyor belt, we like the varieties sushi and makimono offered. You can either choose from the conveyor belt or order freshly made ones through the ordering system.

We were okay with both as long as we have our constant supply for food.. hehehe

The squid was smaller in size compared to the one we ate at Tsuruya and it looked quite dry as well. Of course they did pour some on top of the squid so that it would not look dry or burnt.

Overall, the squid still tasted good and acceptable

Tempura Don and Teriyaki Chicken Don came after a while. The rice is not garlic rice but just plain rice but as we all know, the Japanese rice is smaller and wider and smell fragrant.

Sakae Sushi will give you a 5% discount on your bills if you own VIP member card. In order to get this VIP card, you need to accumulate a total of RM500 dining in receipt to be eligible. Somehow, this is a bit turn off that you need to dine so much before enjoying a mere 5% discount. We do hope they can do at least better than that.

I also prefer Sakae Sushi if compare to Sushi King. Seems like Sakae Sushi has more choices in the menu. Every time I go to Sushi King, I will order the same thing. Btw, there is a Sushi Queen in Seberang Jaya Jusco. Haha. Will it be Sushi Prince or Sushi Princess in the future? Wakakaka.

    allenooi,

Agree, there are more choices at Sakae Sushi compared to Sushi King. Another thing we like is that we can do the refill ourselves instead of asking the waiters to fill it up.. Sometimes they don’t see us eh….

Hmmm… are people ripping off your post? There’s a lot of that happening of late! Am a fan of Sakae Sushi although I’ve had varying degrees of satisfaction with the sushi off the kaiten belt - sometimes it’s been totally stale, like it’s been sitting there for hours. The alacarte dishes are really good bargains.

this came as a surprise actually…but upon closer inspection, the writer did link the post back to us though we’re not sure why did they do it..

Agree. the ala carte once are worth dining …
