Sungai Nibong Koay Teow Th’ng

It was almost lunch time when Fei Fei suddenly got a call from an ex-colleague saying he was nearby our area and wanted to have lunch with us. 

Being indecisive we are especially selecting the place to eat, we asked our ex-colleague to think of a place when he picked us up then.

Almost instantly, he mentioned that he missed the koay teow th’ng at Sungai Nibong, so off we went.

The koay teow th’ng stall is located at the corner lot kopitiam, facing the main road and opposite Avercafe.

There are two types of koay teow th’ng; one is where the koay teow is rinsed with boiled water and soup poured into it after all ingredients (usually cooked upfront) put in and the other is the soup is cooked together with the ingredients. This stall is the latter type.

The bowl of koay teow th’ng served here usually comes with egg unless you opt out. You will also get cooked minced meat (bak chor), fish ball and lard (bak eiu). You can taste the difference between this one compared to the first type. It has stronger aroma and tasted better too.

The small bowl costs RM2.50, medium at RM3.00 and the largest one costs RM4.50.

By the way, while enjoying the koay teow th’ng here, you can also try the roti panggang stall nearby. It is quite unique and has been featured in 8TV’s Ho Ciak food series before. The Chu Cheong Fun and Yam Cake also nice, can give it a try while waiting for the koay teow th’ng.

    I have not tasted this stall before but I did hear about the high recommendation on the toasted bread. As for Chee Cheong Fun, I somehow love the one in Genting Coffee Shop off Jalan Delima.

    I have found the best Pan Mee in the whole world but the stall is not in Penang. :P If you ever find a place selling this type as in my latest post, do let me know, ok? :)

    thanks for sharing the link to roti panggang, watching the video already make me drooling and feeling hungry even though i just had breakfast…

    look at the various ingredients available for you to choose, endless possibilities make you feel to order all of them .. hahaha

    yup, i like the chee cheong fun (ccf) at the Genting Coffee Shop too. The ccf is soft and doesn’t break easily. (not chui chui)

    best pan mee but not in penang? Hmm… where else can it be??? anybody?

    I feel that the koay teow th’ng is too oily & also will feel very thirty after eating it though it taste delicious! :P

    Also, the roti panggang is quite pricey! :P

    hey jason, koay teow th’ng is cantonese call it ‘cheng thong fun’. hokkien in penang call it koay teow th’ng. th’ng means soup in hokkien.
    this is one of the stall that i was craving when i was pregnant… wonder why? but comparatively i prefer the one in king street Penang… http://mylovemyfood.blogspot.com/2007/11/kings-street-koay-teow-thng.html

    th’ng is hokkien word for soup and pretty much that’s the word you’ll when you look for koay teow soup in Penang..

    don’t be mistaken that “cheng tong” means clear soup as the preparation type i mentioned from this stall is slightly “cloudy”. furthermore, they don’t use much MSG too…
