Penang Restaurant | Jemputree Restaurant

This is a new al fresco restaurant opened in Penang recently, situated off Burmah Road slightly opposite 1926 Heritage Hotel and slightly away from Guan Apong. This restaurant features village concept dining under attap huts (pondok atap).

There is even a top tiered attap hut which gives you an elevated view of Burmah Road.

Walking into this restaurant feels like a walk in the kampong where the roofs are covered with dry leaves and vintage tools which had found its use for decorative purpose.

The layout and design indeed give you a feeling of going into traditional Malay kampong except for the cement floor and traffic noise outside.
Food quality here is slightly above average, not to say the best but they do serve both oriental and western dishes.

Tom Yam noodle was not really spicy but tasted a bit sweet but the chicken lasagna served comes with generous portion of cheese.

The ikan panggang (ray fish) we ordered was well grilled with the fish cooked without any burnt taste and it comes with two types of sauce, soy based and chilly based. A snack that you should not miss is the cucur ikan bilis, fried anchovies that comes with Thai Chili sauce.

Jemputree! is a nice place to head to if you like to experience open air dining in traditional village environment, something definitely different on Penang dining.

I actually like the environment more than the food..hehe.
The menu is extensive but the food quality and taste is just so-so.

the jail restaurant is Obake-Ya Japanese Restaurant. It is located at Leith Street, just next to Equator Academy of Arts and opposite Cheong Fatt Tze mansion.

Criz Lai and Cariso had reviewed this place before. You can check for them at the links below

    sharon,

the environment is quite unique and adventurous. Try to take the seating on top of the hut if they have the vacancy… nice to enjoy dining from the top of the tree~! :D
